The development of Lithuanian OH&S policy is based on the imlemenation of Lithuanian Health Programme (1998-2010) as well as national OH&S programmes, adopted by the Lithuanian Government. The implementation of Lithuanian Health Programme is supervised by the National Health Council under the Parliament of Lithuania. 

The leading authority for the formulation and implementation of national OH&S policy Ministry of Social Security and Labour. Ministry of Heath is responsible for the development of occupational health services. Both Ministries are responsible for the national policy development, progressive extension and implementation of activities for the maintenance of health and safety at work. 

The policy coordination and social acceptability are taken care of by the Lithuanian Council of Safety at Work and the tripartite Commission of Safety at Work. The enforcement of the occupational health and safety laws and regulations belongs to the State labour inspectorate under the Ministry of Social Security and Labour.
